Description

Hello Abstract Art Lovers

I’m Robert Mascatello

I am a self-taught Painter with a passion for creating beautiful and original fine art and prints. I paint in a variety of abstract styles, inspired by various life experiences. I work with Oil on Canvas, using a bright color palette, often with bold black borders. One major style is focused on presenting objects that evoke movement, often borrowing from my experience as a trained biologist. For example, in “The Mountain” I have filled the canvas with primitive animals, reptiles and insects that move across the canvas at different layers of the mountain. In “Maelstrom“, there is a similar presentation, this time adding protozoa and other objects one would see under a microscope.

My painting style has also been influenced by my experience as musician and song writer. Sometimes I enjoy using musical instruments as the focal point. Two of my favorites are “Two Keyboards and a Drum“. and “Splashy Grand Piano.

Both music and painting inspire freedom of movement. Music provides dancers with that freedom, and painters can be inspired to express that movement on canvas. When I paint to jazz/funk music, the brush strokes may be quick and flowing. With classical music, the brush strokes may be more deliberate and refined. Sometimes, I can imagine that the canvas is a musical staff where I am writing down notations. Jackson Pollack had his Action Painting, where he dropped and splattered on the canvas which was stretched on the floor. My style of Action Painting is not quite as dramatic – but I am very conscious of the movement of my feet, arms and hands as I reach for the palette, apply the paint to brush, and then apply to canvas. It is a source of joy for me that I hope I never lose.

I hope you enjoy my artwork, and that you may choose to purchase some for your home or collection.  Thank you!
